Ujigami jinja 宇治上神社

Ujigami jinja 宇治上神社 is a UNESCO heritage site, so we had to see it.  It was a small regular shrine, without many visitors.  I guess it was a bit off the main roads.  Also, there was the Uji jinja 宇治神社 a little ways before it, and some people possibly saw that and thought that was it.

The thing that stood out for this shrine were the two piles of sand just in the entrance.  I’m sure there was some deep meaning to that.  There was also the walk-in well to the side.  Kinda dark and weird.

There were some umbrellas in the main hall, which happened to be lit quite nicely by the afternoon sun.  No priests or shrine maidens could be seen anywhere…
